Yesterday we had the absolute best time at Stonebridge City Farm – a brilliant little charity that’s just around the corner from Treat Kitchen HQ here in Nottingham. If you’ve never been, it’s a proper hidden gem. Think friendly animals, veggie patches, a welcoming café – and best of all, it’s free to visit (though they’re always grateful for donations!).
We’ve loved this place for years, but every time we go back, we’re reminded why it’s so special. It’s not just a farm – it’s a big-hearted community hub, run with so much love. Over 200 volunteers help out each week, many of whom have physical disabilities, mental health challenges, or additional learning needs. The team there has created the most supportive, nurturing space for everyone to get stuck in, feel good, and be part of something.
We’ve hosted a few gingerbread workshops at Stonebridge before, and honestly, it’s always a joy. So for Mental Health Awareness Week, we popped over again for a relaxed afternoon of creativity and connection with some of their wonderful volunteers.
Sweet Treats & Even Sweeter Company
We brought along some of our gingerbread kits – not only a great way to reduce food waste, but also perfect for a fun, creative session with the volunteers. We all couldn’t stop chatting, laughing, and (obviously) decorating. Some of us decorated classic gingerbread people, while others went all-in and built gingerbread houses.
With a bit of teamwork (and plenty of icing), the houses turned out amazing. If you’ve never decorated one before, there’s something genuinely satisfying about standing back and admiring your finished creation – especially when it’s a group effort!
It was such a nice break from the everyday hustle – and a lovely reminder that sometimes, just slowing down and having a laugh with good people is exactly what you need.
Why Supporting Local Charities Matters
As a small Nottingham business, we’re proud to support local initiatives like Stonebridge City Farm. The work they do goes far beyond the animals and allotments – they’re creating inclusive opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities to grow in confidence, build friendships, and gain new skills.
Whether it’s helping out in the café, caring for the animals, or welcoming visitors with a smile – every volunteer plays a valuable role. And every time we visit, we leave feeling uplifted, inspired, and lucky to be part of such an incredible community.
We’ll definitely be back soon (gingerbread in hand, of course).
