When the opportunity came up to work with the Science Museum on their Horrible Science range, we knew straight away this was something we wanted to be part of. At Treat Kitchen, we’re all about creating gifts that make people stop, look twice, and smile - so combining that with a brand known for making science fun (and a little bit gross) felt like the perfect match!!
Our milk carton range has always been about doing things differently. It’s a format that stands out, feels giftable, and instantly grabs attention on shelf - which made it the perfect base for a collaboration like this. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we built on that success.
The challenge (and the fun part) was transforming our existing milk carton into something that felt right for Horrible Science. Working closely with the Science Museum team, we adapted the design to bring in that signature Horrible Science personality - something that would appeal to families, school trips, and science enthusiasts looking for a fun take-home gift. Who can resist their cute mascot Hrffblerb! This character became the focal point of the collaboration!
Because we already understood how well the format performs, this was about enhancing that rather than overcomplicating it.
The result is something that naturally draws attention. It’s familiar enough to recognise instantly, but different enough to make people take a second look. And once it’s in someone’s hands, it already feels like a complete gift - which is exactly what you want from a product sitting in a museum shop.
This was one of those collaborations that didn’t feel forced. Our whole team was so enthusiastic through out the process! A well-loved format paired with a brand known for making learning fun and engaging. It worked because both sides brought something to the table, and the end result feels true to both.
We loved the process of bringing it to life, and it’s a great example of how an existing product can be reimagined for a completely new audience without losing what made it successful in the first place. Projects like this are exactly what we love to work on - taking proven formats and finding new ways to evolve them through the right partnerships.
Whether it’s a collaboration, a new audience, or a fresh design direction, there’s so much you can do when you start with something that already works!
If you’ve got a collaboration in mind, or you’re looking to create something unique for your customers, we’re always open to new ideas. From our best selling formats to something a bit more bespoke, we’d love to explore it with you!
