Doing Our Bit for the Environment and Our Community

Lydia McDonald

At Treat Kitchen, we’re a small business with a big heart - not just for sweets, but for our local community and environment too.

We know we’re not changing the world overnight. But we do believe that lots of small actions can add up to a meaningful difference. Whether that’s choosing more eco-conscious packaging, reusing materials, or supporting green projects close to home, we’re always looking for thoughtful ways to do better - for people and for the planet.

Here’s how we’re doing our bit:

♻️ Message Bottles Designed with Less Waste in Mind

Our best-selling glass message bottles are one of our most loved products - and they come with very little waste. The labels are peelable and the seal can be recycled. The bottle itself is ideal for upcycling - customers reuse them as vases, pen pots, cocktail shakers, or even mini terrariums!

📦 Positive Packing: Reusing What Comes Through Our Doors

Every week, we receive boxes from suppliers - and instead of sending that cardboard to waste, we shred it into crinkle cut packing for your online and wholesale orders.
It’s not the flashiest solution, but it’s one we’re proud of - simple, low-waste and effective.

🍬 Reducing Food Waste Where We Can

We’re big on minimising food waste in small, practical ways:  If we have excess or short-dated stock, we sell it through our TikTok Shop or donate it to local charities like Base 51 for their fundraising events.

Broken or surplus gingerbread kits? We use them in gingerbread decorating workshops for Stonebridge City Farm - a fantastic community space right here in Nottingham.

🌳 Supporting Green Projects in Our Local Area

We’re proud to support organisations that are helping connect people to nature right here in the UK.

We’ve funded fruit trees, plants and tools for the Nottingham branch of the Canal & River Trust’s social prescribing programme. A brilliant initiative that combines mental health support with gardening and the outdoors.

We regularly donate to Stonebridge City Farm, a community farm in Nottingham that teaches children and families about animals, food, and the environment, and stays free to visit thanks to donations.

🎄 Giving Back at Christmas

Last Christmas, we donated Gingerbread Kits to Basket Brigade UK — a charity that delivers baskets of food and hope to families across the UK on the 23rd of December each year.

It’s the kind of small act that reminds us what gifting is really about.

🌍 A Small Business, Trying to Do the Right Thing

We’re not perfect, and we’re not pretending to be a global sustainability leader. But we do care. We think carefully about our packaging choices, we reduce waste where we can, and we always look for opportunities to give back to our local community.

If you’re looking for sweet gifts with a little less waste and a little more heart — you’re in good company.

Thanks for supporting a small UK business doing its best. 💚
