At TTK we are proud to support local charities and initiatives that are both close to our hearts and provide a significant benefit to our community. One of the charities we continuously support is Base 51.
Base 51 are a youth charity, established in Nottingham in 1993. They provide a holistic range of health, well-being and support services to those aged 11 – 25 and operate in both the city and county area. Their mission is to enable young people to reach their fullest potential.
Fundraising and Communications Coordinator, Hannah McDermott:
"The young people we meet at Base 51 are often affected by any number of difficulties which may prevent them from doing just that, including mental ill-health, long term unemployment, knife crime, social isolation and extreme poverty, to name only a few. In response then to these varied threats and obstacles to a young adult’s well-being, we provide equally varied services; engaging holistically with the emotional, mental, physical and economic needs of the individual."
Our services include:
- Counselling - Professional therapy service working with young people across a wide range of presenting issues.
- NGY - Regular youth group activities and outreach.
- Outburst - Nottingham's only LGBTQ+ group for young people.
- Thrive - Supporting young people who are living with their family in temporary accommodation.
- You Can - Employability and training programme for NEET young people.
- Evolution - Supporting young people affected by serious violence through specialised trauma counselling.
- The F Word – A group for young women promoting physical and emotional health.
For many young people, Base 51 means a safe space. It means an open ear and a helping hand. We have continued to extend a helping hand, both online and otherwise, during this period of lockdown, a time which has served only to exacerbate the existing hurdles to a young person reaching their potential."
