We are thrilled to introduce Isabel Hospice, a registered charity providing invaluable support and care to patients and families across eastern Hertfordshire. And guess what? We're excited to share that we are in their stores, and they are a valued customer at Treat Kitchen! Make sure to look out for our message bottles in their stores. Now, let's delve deeper into the wonderful work of Isabel's Hospice and discover how we can contribute to their mission of providing comfort and care to those in need.

What do Isabel Hospice do?

Isabel Hospice is a registered charity and each year we care for hundreds of people across eastern Hertfordshire.

We provide support and care to patients and their families in eastern Hertfordshire who are affected by life-limiting illnesses through our Hospice at Home, In-Patient Unit, Community Team, Living Well with Isabel programme and our Family and Bereavement support service.

We help people by improving their quality of life by impeccable holistic assessment. This allows people to make the most of the time they have left and die with dignity in the place of their choice, knowing their loved ones are supported.

Most of the people we care for have cancer, however, we are also increasingly caring for people with other life limiting conditions.

Why is a charity like this needed?

All of our services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning we must raise £7 million every year to guarantee the future of our care.

We rely heavily on donations from our local community, as well as income from fundraising events and from our 16 charity shops across eastern Hertfordshire.

What unique ways does Isabel Hospice create a comforting and supportive environment for patients and their families?

Our life-changing care helps families make the most of every moment, at the point when life is most precious. Our care supports people to live pain and symptom free, to be cared for in their place of choice, and to make the most of the time they have left.

Many people don't know much about hospice care. What are some common misconceptions you'd like to clear up?

Many people (including many healthcare professionals) think that palliative care and hospice care is only about death and dying and, of course, we do support people as they come to the end of their lives, but hospice care is also about ensuring our patients live well until they die.

Supporting a hospice like yours can be incredibly meaningful. What are some simple yet impactful ways individuals in the community can get involved?

As a charity we rely on our local community to support us. Whether it be volunteering for us (this could be as an in-patient unit receptionist, to supporting in one of our shops, or sorting through donations in our donation centre), to signing up to one of our fundraising events (such as a fun run) or possibly through shopping in (and donating unwanted items to) one of our 16 shops on the highstreet or buying from our eBay shop!
