My Experience as a Treat Kitchen Content Creator Intern

Hey! I’m Imogen, a content creator and digital marketing intern at Treat Kitchen. I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Film and Television and am starting a masters in digital marketing at Nottingham Trent university this September. I consider myself a creative individual with a passion for content creation and digital marketing as well as a big fondness for food, so the internship at treat kitchen seemed like the most exciting opportunity for me! Here I will share why I chose this internship and my experience working at Treat Kitchen thus far.

Why Choose Digital Marketing?

I’ve always known that I wanted to work in media, even though the academic side of things never really appealed to me—maths is my worst enemy! When I stumbled across the Digital Marketing Academy for UoN and NTU students, I decided to take the plunge and sign up. Completing two online courses, attending various workshops, and participating in a networking event with other aspiring marketers confirmed that this was the direction I wanted to head in.

Since I was young, I’ve loved creating and editing videos and managing successful Instagram accounts dedicated to my various passions. The Digital Marketing Academy showed me how I could channel my creativity and love for digital media into a business-oriented approach to attract customers. What I love about digital marketing is that its an on-going journey where your strategy must always be adapted according to changing trends, user behaviour and digital technologies, making it challenging but rewarding at the same time!

What Have You Been Up To During Your Internship?

During my first few weeks at Treat Kitchen, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in many fun and exciting activities! In my first week, I was introduced to the team, the offices, the warehouse, and the social media accounts. I’ve created and filmed content for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, always keeping audience demographics in mind for each platform. The creative freedom in this internship has been incredible, allowing me to produce content that I’m passionate about.

I’ve conducted market research into YouTube Shorts to determine the most suitable content types for our audience. Additionally, I’ve been using SEO strategies, helping manage social media accounts, and contributing to the team by assisting with packing and sending off orders.

What Have You Learned So Far?

My internship at Treat Kitchen has significantly boosted my confidence in content creation and deepened my understanding of various digital marketing avenues such as audience segmentation, brand values, and SEO. Initially, I was nervous about creating content for thousands of people to see online, but over time, I’ve gained complete confidence in my ability to post relevant and engaging content.

One key lesson I’ve learned is to stop being overly critical of myself in videos. While I might fixate on a strand of hair sticking out or worry that people will laugh, the reality is that 99.9% of viewers don’t even notice these small details. People are constantly scrolling on social media, more focused on what they can gain from the content rather than on minor imperfections.

Moreover, these past few weeks have shown me what a truly healthy working environment looks like. The team at Treat Kitchen is incredibly supportive and kind, creating an atmosphere that fosters creativity and collaboration. This positive experience has inspired me to seek similar work environments in the future.

Treat Kitchen has been an absolute delight to work for, and I am so excited to see what the next few weeks hold for me!
