Giving Back with Sustainability and Volunteering

At Treat Kitchen we are keen to support our local community. As well as our two partner charities we also offer each team member a volunteering day with an organisation of their choice…

Here’s Melissa our Head of Sales to tell you about how she and Shae our Transport Administrator spent their volunteering day earlier this month…

‘As part of the Sustainability Community Lab (SCL) funded for by the Sustainability in Enterprise (SiE) programme with Nottingham Trent University that I undertook – all participants were invited to partake in a volunteering day at a local non-profit organisation. As a local organisation, doing great work in the City, I suggested Stonebridge City Farm – a stones throw away from TTK’s head office in Sneinton. It was agreed that was where we’d dedicate some of our time to help and give back!

Thanks to the recently introduced two volunteering days provided by TTK, I was able to use one of these days to dedicate some time to a good cause! Stonebridge City Farm are our neighbours, they offer a free urban retreat for local families and the community to learn more about animals and the natural world.  We had such a fantastic day in the sunshine carrying out various tasks such as, replacing rubber matting in the play area, weeding, tidying and even painting the fences whilst surrounded by cows and goats for company!

We were lucky enough to be invited to an evening social after a busy day, where we were hosted by Patrick Hort at Mammoth - A Climate Action Cinema that engages with the Nottingham community on social and environmental issues where we watched an inspiring film called Greenhouse.

A big thank you to Victoria Harvey at NTU for arranging such a fantastic day for us all and for creating a community for graduates to connect and network on how to make businesses more sustainable.
